Ernie Bot Outperforms ChatGPT-4
In a bold declaration, Chinese tech giant Baidu asserts that its AI model, Ernie Bot, surpasses ChatGPT-4 in terms of performance and capabilities.
Some people think China is not as good at AI as the US. In the US, companies like OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google have made chatbots, but Chinese companies haven’t made a lot of news about it.
But now, the big Chinese tech company Baidu says their chatbot Ernie is better than ChatGPT-4. This is making people talk and compare the chatbots. It’s like a race to see who can make the best chatbot!
Robin Li Yanhong revealed Ernie Bot 4 at the Baidu World 2023 event in Beijing. The CEO, who is also a billionaire, demonstrated how Ernie Bot has improved in handling tough questions and creating images.
As reported by the South Morning China Post, Li stated, “Ernie Bot has made significant progress in understanding, suggesting, reasoning, and remembering. Its overall abilities are certainly not inferior to GPT-4.”
Earlier this year, Baidu introduced Ernie Bot and made it available to users in China in August. According to the company, Ernie Bot now boasts a user base of nearly 45 million and is supported by 54,000 developers.
China’s tough AI rules are coming
China has recently released new guidelines to enhance the use of AI in the country, focusing on two key areas. The first is ensuring the safety and legality of training data, and the second is enhancing the security of large language models (LLMs) used in generative AI, such as ChatGPT and Baidu’s Ernie Bot.
The Chinese authorities aim to guarantee that the data used to train AI models is free from copyright violations and does not compromise personal data.
According to online reports, all training data must be “reviewed and approved by authorized data handlers before use.” In simpler terms, human experts must verify the data before it is used to generate AI models.
Even Baidu’s Ernie Bot had to meet stringent government requirements before it became available to the public in China.
