One of the more amusing aspects of the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike is the way some folks are reacting to the possibility of no movie or TV promotions at LA Comic Con 2023. There’s a bit of concern about what will keep attendees entertained. In response, a few have cheekily suggested, “Well, how about comics?”

Certainly, Brits don’t need to travel across the channel to indulge in this ever-popular art form. Especially with the exciting news that Thought Bubble, the largest comic art festival in the UK, is back with a week-long celebration of comic art and culture in Leeds and various Yorkshire locations from November 6th to 12th.

Joining forces once more with LeedsBID, the Thought Bubble Festival 2023 is set to offer a week packed with talks, workshops, exhibitions, public art displays, film screenings, venue takeovers, and a whole lot more.

In the initial festival announcement, we’re thrilled to showcase events like Vice Press, in collaboration with Everyman, as they present the iconic Batman (1989). This event features renowned printmakers offering an exclusive array of limited-edition art posters and prints, along with a special film screening.

Furthermore, the festival will mark the official UK launch party of the innovative comic publishing house DSTLRY, dedicated to forging a more sustainable and equitable path for creators. Additionally, there will be an engaging talk as part of Leeds Arts University’s Creative Networks series featuring the multiple Eisner Award-winning ND Stevenson and Forbes’ 30 Under 30 honoree Molly Knox Ostertag.

In addition, Thought Bubble is set to transform the recently renovated Hyde Park Picture House. The beloved Thought Bubble Art Trail will make a delightful comeback, showcasing large-format artwork throughout Leeds.

Families can look forward to a family-friendly library workshop hosted by Dapo Adeola. As the festival unfolds, organizers assure us of more exhibitions, signings, and social events to be unveiled in the complete festival program in the coming months.

The week-long Thought Bubble Festival leads up to the internationally acclaimed Thought Bubble Convention. Now in its 16th year, Thought Bubble is set to take over the Harrogate Convention Centre from November 11th to 12th, bringing together some of the most influential writers, artists, and creators from around the world while celebrating the vibrant grassroots comics community in Britain.

Among the lineup of iconic guests such as Jeff Lemire, Jock, Zoe Thorogood, Jason Aaron, and Explodikid, Thought Bubble 2023 will be jam-packed with panels covering everything from classic comics to contemporary offerings.

The event will also feature invaluable Q&A sessions for aspiring creators and seasoned enthusiasts alike, along with an abundance of artwork and memorabilia that’s beyond imagination.

“We are so excited to be bringing another Thought Bubble festival back to Leeds in partnership with LeedsBID,” says festival director Martha Julian. “We have some incredible events in store with our partners across the city, from bars and cinemas to universities and schools. We can’t wait to unite people across Leeds to celebrate our beloved comics industry, its creators and amazing fans.”
