Luton Airport Shut Down Due to Massive Car Park Fire
Officials say the parking lot got really damaged when the fire happened
Luton Airport closed because a big fire destroyed a tall car park, and all flights had to stop. Videos on social media showed fire and smoke from the car park’s top floor, along with loud explosions and car alarms. The fire service in Bedfordshire said the car park was very damaged.
The airport said in a message on Wednesday that people should not come to the airport. They want to make sure passengers and staff are safe. So, they decided not to have any flights until noon on Wednesday, October 11.
The ambulance service in the East of England said one person and six firefighters breathed in smoke.
In a statement released at 3 am on Wednesday, the airport said, “Emergency services are still dealing with a big fire in Terminal car park 2, and part of the building has fallen down.”
Molly Bullard shared a video of the fire on social media and said, “It’s really scary at Luton Airport as the multi-story short-stay car park is on fire and exploding.”
Russell Taylor, who had flown in from Edinburgh, told, “There were a few fire trucks with a car on fire on the top floor of the car park just after 9 pm. A few minutes later, most of the top floor was on fire, and car alarms were going off with loud explosions as the cars caught fire. The speed at which the fire spread was incredible.”
